I love the feeling of renewal that accompanies the change in seasons. New opportunities, innovative ideas, and fresh takes on old styles seem to have a knack for emerging during these seasonal transitions.
But of course, there’s no renewal that delights more than a home renewal. After all, it’s true what they say, your home is your sanctuary.
Budget-Friendly Tricks to Transition Your Home
Just as your personal style changes to accommodate the different vibes that new weather brings, so can your home! Cooler months invite cozy textures, deep neutrals, and darker finishes in the household; while warmer months tend to see brighter colors, bolder patterns, and lighter linens.
That said, as much as we love to give our home a seasonal facelift, it’s not always easy to do in times like these when resources—like time, energy and money—are scarce.
Fortunately, it’s a lot easier to update your home than you might think! With just a few tips and tricks that are as economical as they are simple, you’ll be enjoying your space anew in no time.
1. Change Your Throw Pillows and Blankets
If you’re at a loss for where to begin, start with switching and swapping your throws. Think of decorative pillows and blankets as makeup for your living room—they set the tone for the entire space, polish its overall look, and can make or break its impact.
That means that substituting old ones for new ones will instantly refresh your design. And, because they come in infinite price points, there are plenty of different styles and colors to choose from, no matter your budget and sensibilities.
2. Update Your Bedding
Just as your pillows and blankets set the tone for a living room, your bedding functions similarly as the centerpiece of your bedroom’s style. So, make a big change by giving it a little love.
It doesn’t need to be time-consuming or costly, either. Simply swapping out your duvet cover, adding a fresh set of sheets, and incorporating a decorative pillow (or two) is enough to make you feel like you’re in a brand new bedroom.
3. Add New Hardware
Changing your hardware is a tiny update that can make a major difference in your overall aesthetic. And, because there’s rarely a room in the home without it, the opportunities for change are plenty.
You can swap brass hardware for silver; shiny metallic for brushed metal; or a traditional handle for something quirky and whimsical. The possibilities are truly endless and can totally transform the entire look and feel.
4. Refresh Your Wall Space
A lot of us have a tendency to hang pictures and shelving from our walls, and never touch them again. But, if you’re looking for easy ways to update your home’s style, then you definitely want to consider reviewing what your wall is currently working with.
Putting a gallery wall where there was once shelving or using temporary wallpaper in a space that formerly displayed photos are just a few of the simple substitutions you can use to give your home a brand new impression.
5. Revive Your Rugs
Rugs are another area of the home that have the ability to set the tone for your space, so make sure yours are in line with the overall look you’re after.
Rugs featuring deeper hues and subdued patterns are great in cooler months, while vibrant colors and bold patterns work well in the summer. However, there are certainly no hard and fast rules here. Make sure you go with whatever feels right for your unique taste!
6. Swap Your Scents
Visuals aren’t the only things that contribute to your home’s overall style; the scents it’s filled with are surprisingly influential when it comes to how you, and others, feel in your space.
Winter months are great for warm, rich scents like cinnamon, pine, and vanilla, while warmer months lend themselves to breezy aromas like floral and citrus. The beauty of this idea is that all you need is a candle, or essential oil diffuser for a complete home scent makeover. If there’s something I always have on in the home, it’s MULTIPLE candles. I love them!
Have fun renewing your home this weekend, friends!
Be well.
